How can you be happy?

The search for happiness is a constant in the human experience, a journey that leads us to explore the deepest part of our being and the widest part of our world. Definition of happiness

Happiness goes beyond these moments when we feel happy. According to Varela, it consists of a sustained feeling of well-being and satisfaction with life. It is a measure of how authentically we live: are we in line with our deepest values and doing what we are called to do? Guerra adds that happiness also has to do with a deep connection with others and with ourselves, a harmony between what we think, feel and do.

Pillars of happiness

During the interview, Varela and Guerra highlight several fundamental pillars for building a life of happiness:

Purpose and significance:

Find what makes you tick and run after it. Much of happiness comes from the feeling that we are contributing to something bigger than ourselves.

Human connections.

Cultivate meaningful relationships. We are wired to connect with others, and these connections provide us with support, love and a sense of belonging.

Gratitude and appreciation.

Practice gratitude. Focusing on what we have, rather than what we lack, can transform our outlook on life and increase our happiness.

Personal growth.

Commit to continuous learning and growth. Overcoming challenges and learning from them contributes to our sense of accomplishment and satisfaction.

Physical and mental well-being.

Taking care of your body and mind. Regular physical activity, healthy eating and stress management techniques such as meditation can significantly improve our quality of life.

How to be happy: implementing change

To begin the journey to greater happiness, Varela suggests small, consistent steps. Start by identifying the areas of your life you want to improve and set clear, achievable goals. Guerra emphasizes the importance of authenticity and living in accordance with our deepest values, even when it means swimming against the current.

Don’t believe anything you just read, think for yourself.
