Manifesto for a Science with Conscience

The world and model of society in which we live, characterized by the pursuit of material possessions, individualism and the depredation of life and natural resources, dates back to the first kingdoms and cities, five thousand years ago. A system that is now exhausted and is coming to an end, after proving incapable of overcoming its endemic ills, such as economic and environmental unsustainability, social injustice or its inability to facilitate the full development of our human potential.

However, as has happened in the past, when modes of production and worldview change, everything changes. This happened in the Neolithic, with agriculture and religion, and it can happen now with AI, automation of production and the new emerging paradigm of Consciousness.

All of us who are part of this human generation are called to be protagonists of an exciting and challenging time, due to the great opportunities and threats derived from the development of disruptive technologies such as AI, quantum computing or robotics, as well as genetic engineering or neurosciences, among many others. In this context, different experts offer us visions ranging from the most exciting of a new golden age for humanity to the most catastrophic of the extinction of our species. Although we cannot know exactly what will happen, what we do know is that the difference will be determined by the development of a Science with or without Conscience. Which means with or without heart and human values, willing to benefit us all or only a few, acting as a driver of our progress or putting it at risk.

To meet this challenge, we must be able to build bridges between Science and Spirituality, the most advanced research and the wisdom of the Great Spiritual Masters and philosophers of humanity, with Consciousness at the center and as a nexus or bridge of union. From a spirituality understood as the development of the spirit or essence of our human nature, of the gifts, talents and virtues that humanize us. And a Science open to Consciousness, ethics and transcendence, willing to extend the frontiers of our knowledge beyond the visible horizon of physical matter and energy. From the scientific spirit that drives us to find explanations to phenomena that do not seem to be explained from the observation framework of the current Mechanistic and reductionist Paradigm, but that could be explained from the new holistic Paradigm of Consciousness.

Questions such as those raised by Quantum Physics, which suggest the existence of an underlying order outside space and time, or those raised by our own experiences such as NDE – Near Death Experiences, or those related to higher human capacities such as extrasensory perception. Phenomena that shake our Consciousness to open our eyes to the reality of a Universe in which separation seems to be Maya or illusion, as the ancient Hindu wisdom warned us. A Consciousness that, closely related to Intelligence, we begin to understand as an integrator of diversity in unity. Which is thus shown to us in its multiple manifestations, from the act of understanding, by which we obtain knowledge by integrating multiple information, to the creative potential of imagination or ingenuity that make that composition in our mind before materializing it in its realization, passing through the ethical conscience that allows us to organize models of civilization based on the social coexistence of millions of individuals, so different from each other. Thus, by progressively broadening our vision and understanding of the nature of Consciousness, we approach its very essence: Unity. Which, in turn, opens the doors to personal and collective transformation towards a model of society in which the Common Good and Unity prevail over our differences and diversity. For only from a high ethical Consciousness, we will achieve that the development of new technologies is for the benefit of all and generates human progress, to build together a much more advanced and humanized civilization.

With this objective we promoted the creation of the Wake Up Institute for the study of Consciousness and human nature, deepening our self-knowledge and raising our level of Consciousness to broaden our vision and understanding of reality.

A new scientific revolution is underway, in a historic change of course, whereby Science now turns its attention inward from the external and visible reality, plunging into the depths of matter and energy, of life and of the very origin of the Universe and, above all, of ourselves as beings endowed with Consciousness, at the individual and collective level, bringing us ever closer to understanding the Unity that underlies all forms of existence. A true Copernican turn in our observation and understanding of reality, to which more and more professionals and researchers in the physical, social, human and life sciences around the world are joining, such as those who are part of the Wake Up Institute, forming multidisciplinary teams for the design and implementation of studies and experimental tests on consciousness and human nature, as keys to overcome the great challenges of our time.

Focusing our main focus of attention and new lines of research on Consciousness, instead of matter, as up to now, has an enormous potential for transformation in our lives and society. Leaving behind the limited materialistic and individualistic vision of existence, which has always been the cause of all kinds of conflicts, division and useless suffering, to open our eyes to the reality of the Unity that unites us all with the Whole of a Universe much richer, more complex and perfect than we could ever have imagined.

A journey of exploration and discovery in which, from the Wake Up Institute, we invite everyone to participate. From the experience, talents and capabilities that we can bring to the great challenges of our time, all of us who are part of the present human generation, from the different professional, academic and citizen fields, whose minds and hearts resonate with the call to action of this Manifesto for Science with Conscience.
