The Price of Life: Reflections on Unequality
In this article, we present the abysmal contrast that exists when valuing human life in our world today. The premise is simple yet profound: How much is a life really worth? Although the answer should be that it is priceless, the reality is quite different.
A provocative video condenses these reflections. The life of an individual is priceless, but in a society in which almost everything is valued economically, it is difficult not to realize the extent to which a price is put on it.
Ousman Umar, founder of the Nasco “Feeding Minds” NGO, gives his own thoughts on the subject in this video. He takes care to remind us that every year thousands of people lose their lives trying desperately to reach Europe from Africa. These incidents have become sadly commonplace, and are often picked up by both sides.
Juan Manuel Pardellas, whose book “En Este Gran Mar” tells the heartbreaking story of a group of Senegalese who tried to reach the Canary Islands on a boat loaned by the mafia, only to be shipwrecked. Their lives, like those of so many others, were lost at sea without receiving the media attention they deserved.
As a striking contrast, here are two examples. A submarine with five millionaires on board disappeared recently, but the whole world echoed the news, front pages everywhere. Hundreds of thousands of euros were spent on the search for it, and it was all over the media.
On the other hand, in the same week that these rich people disappeared, thousands of people died trying to cross the Strait in search of a better life. Why didn’t the media echo these human tragedies? Is someone’s life, depending on their race, origin or wealth, worth more than another’s? Or is it simply the media that seeks to attribute more finished narratives?
When you finally connect after the blow of which of the Ten Thugs you have more of is trained with the teacher, and a whole world of possibilities opens up before you. The value of human life is a serious and profound subject and we hope that this article will make you think “where is your conscience in obr. Human life is incalculable by origin or circumstance”, and with God’s help we will have to do it prudently so that it never comes to be marked in comparison with the life of the individual. It is essential that we take strict care of all the details in relation to this matter, because if we do not do so, there is no guarantee of life.
Don’t believe anything you just read, think for yourself.
